Adopt a Preservation Priority
Each year, the Springfield Preservation Alliance recognizes five
irreplaceable community assets that need our help. These Preservation
Priorities contribute to Springfield’s distinct identity and help create
our unique sense of place. Often suffering from years of disregard, these
historic resources are in varying states of neglect. Some are even
threatened by demolition. However, they are too important to lose. This is
why we need your help in protecting, promoting, and preserving these
historic resources for future generations.
Being declared a Preservation Priority does not
guarantee action, or even protection, but is designed to increase awareness
and understanding of each site’s importance. The Adopt a Preservation
Priority program partners our community’s dedicated citizens with these
significant local resources. Here are ways that you can get involved:
1. Complete historic research on a property
2. Talk to the property owner about their plans for a property
3. Survey and document a property
4. Promote a property through walking tours, texts, and/or podcasts
5. Write a letter supporting a property’s preservation to the local
newspapers
6. Plan a community clean up day in the area around a property
7. Nominate a property as a Springfield Landmark
If you are interested in getting involved in protecting, promoting, and
preserving one of these significant historic resources, signup now to be a
Priority Liaison. Liaisons will work with a member of our Public
Policy Committee to determine which measures are appropriate and work to
implement these ideas. Do not worry if you do not have experience. An
eagerness to effect change through preservation is the only requirement! To
get involved in protecting the best of our past for our future, please

Donate to the Champion
City Endowment Fund
Help support the movement to recognize, preserve, and revitalize
Springfield’s architectural and cultural heritage by donating to the
Champion City Endowment Fund. To setup this endowment, the Springfield
Preservation Alliance needs to raise $10,000 and is currently over halfway to its goal. The fund is designed to be a grant-giving vehicle for
preservation advocacy and education. Once the Alliance meets its goal,
they will dispense yearly grants to individuals and organizations to help
support preservation in Springfield. Donate today,

Join the Education Committee
We could not offer the programs and
serves that we do without the help of our great education committee
volunteers. The Springfield Preservation Alliance would like to thank all
our committee members for their dedicated support.
To get involved with these exciting
projects (like History, Hymns & Holly Tour and the Summer Walking Tour
Series)
contact Kevin Rose (see
About Us).
The education committee meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month
at 5:30 p.m.
Help Research Future Walking Tours
We are currently
looking for volunteers to help research future walking tours, including
Ridgewood and Hills and Dales. If you are interested in helping, contact
