Bordering Wittenberg University, this proposed historic district is one of Ohio's best kept secrets. Springfield's three great architects, Charles A. Cregar, Robert C. Gotwald, and William K. Shilling, all called College Hill home. Join us and discover the fascinating story of this historic north end neighborhood. Liberty District Saturday, August 7 at 10 am Guided by Rod Burch     NEW TOUR
From the 1870s to 1980s, the Liberty District was a vibrant African American neighborhood filled with schools, churches, theaters, and locally owned businesses. Join us to discover this neighborhood's remarkable and, at times, tumultuous history, including stories of Civil Rights leaders Hattie Moseley and Dorothy Bacon, boxer Davey Moore, and the fight for Fulton School. Hills and Dales by Mail Saturday, August 21 10 am Guided by Sarah Kiss Shivler     NEW TOUR
Between 1906 and the mid-1940s, hundreds of Springfielders ordered their homes through the mail from companies like Sears, Roebuck & Co., Montgomery Ward, and Aladdin. Join us to explore the Hills and Dales neighborhood, which boasts one of Springfield's best collections of catalog houses from the 1920s through 1940s. Building on Springfield’s 19th century industrial success, a new generation of entrepreneurs refocused and reinvigorated the local economy well into the 20th century, making this community an exciting and vibrant place to live. Hear the stories of the people whose spirit of innovation and civic responsibility contributed to Springfield’s growth and national prestige.
